These terms and conditions apply to all services ordered by an individual or a business. They prevail over any other document, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
2. Services
The services are described on the pages of the website: reading and translating old records, tracing a lineage, complete roots research, genogram with or without research, special research on quotation. Results are delivered in PDF, by email. The genogram analysis sessions take place by video call; for English-speaking clients, exchanges are mainly in writing.
The translations provided are working translations, which are not official. They do not replace a certified translation and do not constitute assistance with citizenship applications.
Psychogenealogy is an approach to personal understanding. It does not replace medical or psychological care.
3. Quotation and order
A first exchange, free and without obligation, helps clarify your request. I then send you a written quotation stating the service, the price, the estimated turnaround and any fees. The order is confirmed when you accept the quotation in writing (email or signed quotation) and the agreed deposit has been paid.
4. Prices
Prices are stated in euros, all taxes included. VAT not applicable, article 293 B of the French General Tax Code. The applicable price is the one in the accepted quotation. Amounts shown in other currencies on the website are approximate and for information only.
Fees for official records (certidões from the Conservatórias, archive copies) are not included in the price. They are charged at cost, with no mark-up, after your agreement.
5. Payment
- Reading and translating records: payment when you order.
- Lineage, complete roots, genogram with research, research on quotation: 30% deposit when you order, balance when the results are delivered.
- Genogram without research: 30% deposit when you order, balance before the second session.
Payment is made by bank transfer, in euros. An invoice is issued for each payment.
6. Turnaround
The turnaround times shown on the website and in the quotation are estimates. They depend on the state of the archives and on how long the Conservatórias take to issue official records. I will let you know of any significant delay.
7. Right of withdrawal
If you are an individual, you have 14 days from accepting the quotation to withdraw, without having to give a reason. Simply let me know by email, for example using the form below. Your deposit is then refunded within 14 days.
If you want me to start the research before this period ends, you must ask me to do so expressly in writing. In that case:
- if you withdraw while the service is under way, you pay for the part of the work already done;
- if the service is fully completed before the period ends, you can no longer withdraw.
Model withdrawal form (to be sent to contact@genealogia-portugal.com):
“I hereby give notice that I withdraw from the contract for the following service: … Ordered on: … Name: … Address: … Date: … Signature (if sent on paper): …”
8. Best-efforts commitment
I undertake to carry out the research with care and according to the rules of genealogy: every piece of information is supported by a record, and hypotheses are flagged as such. I cannot guarantee a result: some registers have been lost, have gaps or are unreadable, and some lines stop (foundling, destroyed register).
If a line cannot be continued, I explain why and show you the remaining leads. The work already done remains payable. If a record to be translated turns out to be unreadable, I tell you before charging for it.
9. Your documents and your data
The family documents you entrust to me are used only for your research. They are never published or passed on to third parties. How your personal data is processed is described in the privacy policy.
10. Use of the results
The PDFs delivered (tree, booklet, genogram, transcriptions and translations) are for personal and family use. You may print them and share them with your family. Any commercial publication requires my agreement.
11. Complaints and mediation
For any complaint, write to me at contact@genealogia-portugal.com: I will reply within 15 days.
If you are an individual and the disagreement persists, you may refer the matter free of charge to the following consumer mediator: CNPM – Médiation de la consommation, 27 avenue de la Libération, 42400 Saint-Chamond, France – cnpm-mediation-consommation.eu.
12. Applicable law
These terms are governed by French law. If you are an individual residing in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence.
